Technology is constantly making travel easier, and I love staying up to date on the new ways it can help. So when I recently heard that you can use a boarding pass on your Apple Watch to check-in at the airport, I had to find out if this was true.

One of the biggest pains for me about traveling used to be the check-in process. Getting to the airport way too early to make sure you can stand in line to talk to someone so you can get a decent seat assignment. Now, I just love the streamlined online check-in process where you can get your boarding pass delivered straight to your phone. No need to print it even, simply have the QR code ready on your screen.

For iPhone users you just save your boarding pass to your Wallet app for easy access. Then at TSA/airport security and your airport gate you would simply pull it up on your phone and scan. But it takes it to another level to not have to go digging for your phone at these checkpoints and just use your Apple Watch to scan the QR code instead.

How do you get your boarding pass on your Apple Watch?

The process to get this setup is extremely easy. Simply open the boarding pass on your iPhone once it’s issued by the airline. Then a notification to add the boarding pass to your Wallet should automatically appear, which you will need to accept. Now when you open the Wallet app on your watch, your pass will be available for you to use.

How do you use it at the airport?

When you need to present your boarding pass at the airport, simply open the Wallet on your Apple Watch, choose the correct boarding pass, and scroll down to the QR code. Make sure the screen on your Apple Watch is placed face down on the scanner (your palm facing up) and it should connect perfectly.

Once it is all setup you will also get vibration alerts for gate changes or delays. This added feature makes it all the more convenient to use.

Does using a boarding pass on your Apple Watch work?

Yes, you can use your Apple Watch to scan your boarding pass at the airport. This is an easy way to keep your hands free while you’re navigating the airport, and get immediate notifications if anything about your flight changes.

However, there are drawbacks for using a boarding pass on your Apple Watch instead of your iPhone. Such as scanning the QR code on the face of your Apple Watch can be difficult. Positioning your arm to be able to scan it might not be easy for everyone, and if you have a screen protector on then it might not be bright enough to scan.

Overall, I think that using your boarding pass on your Apple Watch is a great way to make travel easier. Definitely give it a try the next time you’re at the airport and let me know what you think!
